Discover one of Tanzania’s most charming and diverse protected areas on this unforgettable full-day safari to Arusha National Park, a compact gem located just a short drive from Arusha town. Though smaller than the famous northern circuit parks, Arusha National Park offers an extraordinary concentration of landscapes within a single destination—lush montane forest, sparkling Momella Lakes, open grasslands, volcanic craters, and the towering slopes of Mount Meru. Its close proximity makes it one of the most convenient and rewarding safari day trips for travelers based in Arusha or Moshi.
What makes this park unique is the combination of wildlife viewing, scenic beauty, and optional walking or canoeing experiences not commonly offered in larger parks. Guests have excellent chances to see giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, waterbucks, bushbucks, flamingos, hippos, baboons, and the famous black-and-white colobus monkeys that inhabit the forest canopy. Though predators are few, the park’s peaceful atmosphere and rich biodiversity make it ideal for relaxed game viewing and photography.
Arusha National Park is also one of the best places in northern Tanzania to enjoy spectacular views of Mount Meru and, on clear days, distant glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro. The beautiful Momella Lakes shimmer with seasonal birdlife while Ngurdoto Crater—often called the “Little Ngorongoro”—adds dramatic volcanic scenery to the safari route. Combined with professional guiding, private 4×4 transport, picnic lunch, and flexible exploration, Sereti Wilderness Safaris proudly offers Arusha National Park as one of the finest one-day wildlife adventures from Arusha or Moshi.

Your day begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi by the Sereti Wilderness Safaris professional safari driver-guide. At approximately 6:00 AM to 6:30 AM, depart for Tarangire National Park in a comfortable 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof designed for excellent wildlife viewing.
The drive to Tarangire takes approximately 2 to 3 hours from Arusha and about 3 to 4 hours from Moshi, passing through Maasai villages, open plains, local farms, and scenic countryside landscapes.
Upon arrival at the park gate around 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM, complete entry formalities and begin your thrilling game drive inside the park.
Tarangire National Park immediately welcomes visitors with its signature giant baobab trees, rolling acacia woodland, and open savannah. Wildlife sightings often begin soon after entering, with zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, and large elephant families frequently seen moving gracefully across the plains.
As your guide drives deeper toward the Tarangire River, you may encounter buffaloes, ostriches, warthogs, baboons, and if lucky, predators such as lions resting in shade or leopards hidden among tree branches.
At approximately 12:30 PM, stop at one of the designated picnic sites inside the park for lunch.
Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch box surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the African bush and beautiful views of Tarangire’s natural wilderness. During lunch, guests can stretch, relax, photograph the landscape, and observe birds or monkeys often nearby.
This midday break allows time to recharge before continuing with the second half of the safari adventure.
After lunch, continue with an extended afternoon game drive exploring different sectors of Tarangire National Park. Your guide will search for more wildlife concentrations around seasonal swamps, open grasslands, and riverine woodlands.
This is often an excellent time for elephant photography, as Tarangire is internationally known for hosting some of East Africa’s largest elephant populations. Massive tuskers, playful calves, and entire elephant families can often be seen crossing roads or gathering near water sources.
Bird enthusiasts may also enjoy sightings of hornbills, lilac-breasted rollers, secretary birds, ostriches, eagles, and colorful starlings throughout the park.
At approximately 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM, begin exiting the park and start the drive back to Arusha or Moshi. Arrive at your hotel in the early evening around 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM depending on your departure point.
This concludes a spectacular one-day Tanzanian safari filled with wildlife, scenic beauty, and unforgettable bush memories.
