Mount Kilimanjaro trekking via the Marangu Route is one of the most classic and comfortable ways to conquer Africa’s highest mountain. Commonly known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the oldest and most established trail on Kilimanjaro, famous for being the only route that offers overnight stays in mountain huts instead of tents. This makes it especially attractive for climbers seeking a more sheltered and convenient trekking experience, particularly during colder or rainy seasons.
Approaching the mountain from the southeastern side, the Marangu Route follows a scenic and well-maintained trail through Kilimanjaro’s striking ecological zones—from dense rainforest and heath moorland to alpine desert and the icy summit zone. Along the journey, trekkers are treated to panoramic views of both Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks, unique high-altitude flora, and an ever-changing landscape that reflects the mountain’s dramatic natural beauty.
Although Marangu ascends and descends along the same path, making it less varied than some of Kilimanjaro’s circular routes, it remains one of the most preferred choices because of its gradual trail profile and comfortable hut accommodation. The additional acclimatization day at Horombo Hut significantly improves altitude adaptation and greatly increases summit success.
With experienced mountain guides, dedicated porters, nourishing meals, and full logistical support from Sereti Wilderness Safaris, this climb offers a memorable combination of adventure, safety, and achievement as you stand on the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the Roof of Africa.
