Your day begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi by the Sereti Wilderness Safaris safari driver-guide. At approximately 7:30 AM, depart in a private 4×4 safari vehicle toward Arusha National Park, located at the foot of Mount Meru.
The drive from Arusha is short and scenic, taking roughly 45 minutes, while from Moshi it takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours through open countryside and village landscapes.
Arrive at the park gate around 8:30 AM where registration is completed before beginning your morning game drive. The safari starts through lush montane forest where the park is famous for its rare black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, colorful turacos, hornbills, and forest birds.
As the drive continues into open grasslands and acacia woodland, expect sightings of giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, bushbucks, warthogs, and occasionally groups of baboons moving through the park. The peaceful atmosphere and dramatic Mount Meru backdrop make the morning drive highly scenic and relaxed.
Continue toward the beautiful Momella Lakes, a chain of shallow alkaline lakes that attract flamingos, ducks, herons, pelicans, and numerous migratory bird species depending on season.
At approximately 12:30 PM, enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the designated scenic picnic sites within the park.
Surrounded by forest views or overlooking the lakes, this lunch break offers a peaceful moment to relax while enjoying the sounds of nature. Guests can stretch, take photographs, and watch nearby wildlife often wandering close to the picnic area.
After lunch, continue with an afternoon exploration of the park including a visit to the impressive Ngurdoto Crater, a lush volcanic caldera often nicknamed “Little Ngorongoro.”
From the crater viewpoints, enjoy dramatic panoramic scenery over swamp-filled crater floors where buffaloes, warthogs, and antelope are commonly seen grazing. The afternoon drive also passes through open plains beneath Mount Meru, providing further chances for giraffe photography and wildlife viewing.
For guests who request in advance, this afternoon section may also include an optional short ranger-accompanied walking safari or canoe safari on Momella Lake at additional arrangement.
At approximately 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM, exit the park and begin the comfortable drive back to Arusha or Moshi, arriving at your hotel in the early evening.
This concludes a wonderfully scenic and wildlife-filled day in one of Tanzania’s most beautiful compact parks.
