Excellent balance of wildlife, scenery, and relaxed pacing with midrange and budget friendly accommodation options

The 10-Day Kenya & Tanzania Wild Adventure is one of East Africa’s most complete and best-selling cross-border safari packages, carefully crafted for travelers who want to experience the finest wildlife destinations of both countries in one seamless journey. Designed as a longer yet budget-conscious combination, this safari balances exceptional game viewing, iconic landscapes, and comfortable travel pacing without the exhaustion that often comes from overcrowded itineraries.

This unforgettable expedition begins in Kenya’s famous wildlife circuit with the elephant-rich plains of Amboseli National Park and the predator-dense grasslands of Maasai Mara National Reserve. Amboseli offers postcard-perfect views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising behind giant tusker elephants, while Maasai Mara introduces travelers to one of Africa’s richest concentrations of lions, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and  in season  the legendary wildebeest migration.

Crossing into Tanzania, the adventure continues into the endless plains of Serengeti National Park, globally celebrated for its immense wildlife population and dramatic predator-prey encounters. The journey then concludes in the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of the few places in Africa where the Big Five can often be spotted within a single day.

With professional bilingual guides, private 4×4 safari vehicles, carefully selected lodges/camps, and well-planned border transitions, Sereti Wilderness Safaris offers this package as the ideal East African safari for travelers seeking a rich, rewarding, and affordable Kenya–Tanzania wildlife adventure.

Amboseli sits directly beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, giving travelers one of Africa’s most iconic safari panoramas — elephants crossing dusty plains with Africa’s highest mountain standing snow-capped in the background.

Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive through open swamps, acacia woodland, and seasonal lakebeds. Wildlife sightings commonly include elephants, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, and lions. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight.

Full Day Game Drive in Amboseli National Park

Today is dedicated to a full exploration of Amboseli’s rich wildlife habitats. Morning and afternoon game drives take you deep into the park’s marshlands where elephants gather in remarkable numbers, often walking only meters from the vehicle.

Besides elephants, Amboseli provides excellent opportunities for lion sightings, cheetahs on the open plains, hippos in the wetlands, and over 400 bird species. The changing light over Kilimanjaro makes this one of the best photography parks in East Africa. This relaxed day allows guests to enjoy wildlife without long transit hours.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Amboseli
    DAY 3

Amboseli to Maasai Mara National Reserve

After an early breakfast, depart Amboseli and travel through Nairobi onward to the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. The journey passes through changing landscapes of highland farms, Rift Valley escarpments, and Maasai pastoral country.

Arrive at Maasai Mara in the late afternoon with an en route introductory game drive as wildlife begins appearing across the endless golden savannah. Maasai Mara is regarded as Kenya’s flagship reserve due to its superb predator population and year-round game concentration. Dinner and overnight at safari camp.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Maasai Mara
    DAY 4

Full Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara

Spend a full day exploring Maasai Mara’s wildlife-rich plains with picnic lunch. The reserve is home to large prides of lions, fast-moving cheetahs, elusive leopards, buffaloes, elephants, hyenas, topis, gazelles, and huge zebra populations.

During migration months, wildebeest columns may also be encountered in dramatic numbers. Your guide will follow wildlife radio communication to maximize predator sightings and river activity. This full day provides one of the finest authentic African safari experiences available anywhere on the continent.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Maasai Mara
    DAY 5

Maasai Mara to Isebania Border – Continue to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning game drive as you exit Maasai Mara and proceed toward Isebania/Sirari Border for immigration formalities into Tanzania. After meeting your Tanzania guide, continue into the legendary Serengeti National Park.

The transition is smooth and rewarding as the two countries share one enormous wildlife ecosystem. An evening game drive en route to camp introduces you to the Serengeti’s endless plains filled with gazelles, giraffes, elephants, and predators.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Serengeti
    DAY 6

Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

Today is devoted entirely to one of Africa’s most celebrated safari ecosystems — the Serengeti. Vast plains stretch to every horizon, interrupted only by kopjes, acacia trees, and moving wildlife. The Serengeti supports one of the highest large mammal densities on Earth.

The park is particularly famous for lion prides, cheetah hunts, leopard sightings, hyenas, elephants, and huge herbivore populations. Depending on the season, your guide will also search for migration herds. Game viewing remains consistently world-class from sunrise to sunset.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Serengeti
    DAY 7

Serengeti National Park – Another Full Safari Experience

This second full day in the Serengeti allows travelers to explore deeper sectors of the park and greatly improves chances of exceptional predator encounters. Early morning game drives often reveal lions returning from nocturnal hunts or leopards draped in acacia branches.

Midday relaxation can be enjoyed at camp before resuming the afternoon safari. This extra Serengeti day is what makes this 10-day combo feel fuller and more comprehensive, ensuring you appreciate the true scale of the ecosystem.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Safari Lodge/Camp in Serengeti
    DAY 8

    Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, continue with a scenic en route game drive out of Serengeti toward the cooler volcanic highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. An optional visit to Olduvai Gorge can be arranged for those interested in archaeological history.

As the drive climbs upward, the landscape changes from open plains to misty forests and breathtaking crater viewpoints. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim or Karatu area for dinner and overnight, enjoying the cooler high-altitude air.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Lodge in Ngorongoro/Karatu
    DAY 9

Ngorongoro Crater Safari – Return to Arusha

After an early breakfast, descend into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater for a concentrated game drive. The crater floor hosts one of Africa’s densest wildlife populations including black rhino, lions, buffaloes, elephants, wildebeest, zebras, and flamingos on the soda lake.

Because the ecosystem is enclosed, wildlife viewing here is exceptionally rewarding and serves as the perfect Big Five finale to the journey. After a picnic lunch, drive to Arusha town for your final celebratory dinner and overnight.

    — Accommodation: Budget, Midrange or Luxury Hotel in Arusha
    DAY 10

    The Great Migration Trail

    The Great Migration Trail

Witness the world-famous Great Wildebeest Migration in Two countries, Kenya and Tanzania.

The 7-Day Great Migration Gnu Safari is one of East Africa’s most thrilling cross-border wildlife adventures, carefully designed to give travelers the rare opportunity to witness the dramatic movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, as they traverse the legendary plains of Kenya’s Maasai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing. This ancient circular movement is famously known as The Great Wildebeest Migration, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and among the most extraordinary wildlife spectacles on Earth.

This safari perfectly combines two of Africa’s finest safari destinations — the game-rich Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and the endless predator-filled plains of Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. During the migration season, especially from July through October, the herds gather around the Mara River where heart-stopping river crossings unfold as wildebeest plunge into crocodile-infested waters while lions, cheetahs, and hyenas wait nearby.

Beyond the migration itself, this itinerary offers a full East African safari immersion — dramatic landscapes, Big Five encounters, Maasai culture, and unforgettable game drives across two countries linked by one living ecosystem. Travelers experience the excitement of following the moving herds, witnessing predator-prey interactions, and exploring the iconic savannahs that define the spirit of Africa.

With professional bilingual guides, carefully selected lodges/camps, smooth border logistics, and excellent wildlife positioning, Sereti Wilderness Safaris presents this safari as the ultimate migration expedition for travelers seeking both Kenya and Tanzania in one unforgettable journey.

Amboseli is world-renowned for providing the most iconic photographic backdrop in all of Africa: massive herds of free-ranging elephants moving across dusty plains with the towering, snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro rising directly behind them. The name “Amboseli” comes from a Maasai word meaning “salty dust,” yet the park is defined by its contrast — dry, parched lake beds sitting alongside lush, permanent green swamps.

These swamps are fed by underground springs from Kilimanjaro’s melting snow, creating a year-round oasis that attracts an incredible variety of wildlife and over 400 species of birds. Because the vegetation is sparse due to the saline soil, wildlife viewing here is remarkably easy and consistent.

    Regions of the Park

    Four Zones, Four Stories

    • Enkongo Narok & Olokenya Swamps: The lifeblood of the park. These emerald-green wetlands are where you will find elephants submerged up to their bellies, alongside hippos and hundreds of water birds.

    • Observation Hill (Noirmotit): A volcanic hill that offers the only point in the park where you can get out of your vehicle and walk. From the summit, you get a 360-degree view of the entire park, the swamps, and the mountain.

    • Lake Amboseli: A vast, seasonal lake bed that is usually a dry, shimmering salt pan. It creates stunning mirages in the heat and provides a stark, minimalist landscape for photography.

    • The Tortilis Woodlands: Areas of yellow-barked fever trees and acacia tortilis that provide shade for smaller plains game and elusive leopards.

The Maasai Mara is named in honor of the Maasai people—the ancestral inhabitants of the land. The word Mara means “spotted” in the Maa language, referring to the landscape of short bushy trees and cloud shadows that dot the vast open plains.

While smaller than its neighbor, the Serengeti, the Mara’s high concentration of wildlife year-round makes it a premier destination. It is globally renowned for the Great Migration, specifically the perilous crossings of the Mara River, where thousands of wildebeest face giant Nile crocodiles and waiting lions.

    Regions of the Mara

    Four Zones, Four Stories

    • The Mara Triangle: Managed by a non-profit conservancy, this area is known for excellent anti-poaching and well-maintained tracks. It is the primary entry point for the migration from Tanzania.
    • Central Mara: The most popular and accessible region. It has the highest density of tourist camps but also incredible wildlife activity, especially around the Talek River.
    • The Mara River: The site of the dramatic river crossings. Lined with riverine forest, it is also the best place to find large pods of hippos and massive crocodiles.
    • Private Conservancies: Surrounding the main reserve (like Mara North or Olare Motorogi), these offer exclusive experiences with limited vehicle numbers and activities not allowed in the reserve, such as night drives and walking safaris.

    • The Crossing: Between July and September, the herds gather on the banks of the Mara River. The pressure builds until a single wildebeest leaps in, triggering a chaotic and spectacular surge.
    • The Feast: The abundance of prey supports a massive population of predators, leading to frequent and dramatic hunting sightings.
    • Hot Air Ballooning: One of the most iconic ways to see the Mara is a sunrise balloon flight over the plains, concluding with a champagne breakfast in the bush.
